What the hell do you mean I'm only allowed to wait on 64 winsock events at once? That doesn't make me a happy person [sad]

So, I'm going to have to try and rip out my socket code and make a (more) simple test application and beg for help from the guys in the Multiplayer and Network Programming forum.

I suppose I should get started...

Why don't you use a third party networking library like HawkNL or RakNet? One would imagine they've solved these problems.

I seem to recall that there was a way to hack it up and get a couple thousand or so simultaneous connections.

Partially as a learning exercise, partly because I'm obsessed by writing it myself for maxiumum performance, and partly because I just don't like using other peoples code.
